GrandMomma Time

March 26, 2006, 4:54 pm

Look who got to spend some precious quality time with her grandson :

A couple of swingers.

Catching up on their reading.

Havin' fun in the BIG CITY!

Huck-Heads around the globe finally have someone they can really envy. Huck's Grandmomma Judy has been visiting us this weekend and our little Huckleberry is so excited he can barely get in a good nap. There's been too many giggles and hugs and kisses and exciting new games to play. Somehow we also managed to take in a big trip to the children's museum and a wild, wild time at the park. Boy! If we'd have known how much fun Grandparents are when we were younger --wait, a minute, we've always known how much fun grandparents are, but you get the picture.

that was one really long week

March 23, 2006, 9:20 pm

Poor little Huck is finally starting to get back to his normal, delightful self after a week of sickness. The really bad stuff was "only" about 24 hours, but that "short" amount of time really took a toll on his little 22 pound body. (And it also almost sent Mommy to the insane asylum. Who's idea was it to have babies throw up over and over again?) He still doesn't have his normal appetite back, but his energy has returned! And seemingly overnight his nose now looks exactly like Troy's nose.

(HAPPY 2ND BIRTHDAY, CALLIE!)

growing up (and throwing up)

March 18, 2006, 8:48 am

Is it just me, or is Huck beginning to look like a little boy? Sometimes I fear that if I had to pick him out of a room full of other kids his age I wouldn’t be able to. There are times when I catch a glimpse of him and think, “Who is that?” Pretty much since the day he was born Troy and I have been asking each other, “Who is that little baby over there? Where did he come from?” Sometimes it seems absurd that we have this little human living with us.

The other day we were in line at a children’s clothing store when a very young mommy-to-be began talking to us. She was really interested in Huck since she’s about to have a boy of her own, and she asked how old he was. I proudly said, “He just turned one!” She looked quite surprised and began exclaiming how big he was. It took me a few minutes to realize she thought I meant that he’d just turned one MONTH old, because to her a one year old is very far from her reality. I missed my window of opportunity to correct her without making us all feel stupid, so I let that poor girl go thinking she’d just seen the world’s most freakishly large and alert one month old. Once it was my turn in line I noticed the woman behind me was holding onto Huck’s stroller as if it was her own. I had to awkwardly say, “Excuse me,” to get my stroller out of her hands. She was in a daze and probably has a kid or two at home, and so for her it’s as natural as anything to hold onto a stroller. She was very embarrassed. We moms have to stick together.

So Huck is now a toddler, but he still crawls more than he walks. When he does walk he looks like he’s going through physical therapy following a terrible accident, and he’s very good natured about falling on his bottom. In fact, we think he likes it. He REALLY likes to hit his head on things. Our friend Jennifer was over last weekend and invented a wonderful game in which she threw a soft little ball and hit him on the head over and over again. He was delirious with laughter, and she gave us more than a few concerned looks. Again Troy and I asked each other, “Who is that baby over there? Where did he come from?”

In disgusting news, the Schremmers have been falling apart this week. On Monday Huck caught a cold, on Tuesday Mommy’s bad ear gave her trouble so she saw the doctor, on Wednesday Huck caught a horrible stomach virus and began a long series of vomiting and diarrhea, on Thursday Daddy went to his annual checkup and was diagnosed with eczema (WHAT THE??), on Thursday Mommy caught Huck’s sickness, and on Friday it was Daddy's turn. We’re expecting Max to lose a leg or something sometime today.

another birthday

March 15, 2006, 10:59 am

Today is Huck's favorite dog's birthday! Ol' Max turned 12 today, bless his old heart. Here are the two buddies enjoying some quality time together, until Huck began putting paper on Max's back followed by excited dancing. That combo made Max nervous.

obsessed? you bet!

March 7, 2006, 9:33 pm

You know those commericals for Perdue chicken where the Perdue man ironically says that he doesn't understand why people think he's obsessed with chicken? I'm starting to feel that way about my little Huck and these blogs. What do you mean I'm obsessed with letting you know every single thing about his life? I don't know where you get that!!!

So since I am admittedly quite serious about you being in the know, here's a picture diary of Huck's very first birthday, starting with a shave and ending with an impromptu party because neighborhood boys Richard, Josh and Christopher dropped by to give their little friend some birthday love.

and six, we love how he points and squeals when he sees pictures of himself on our computer! (which is a lot, as you can imagine)
