When you're one, there is no reason to ever sit still ever. You have balls to throw, books to read, songs to sing loudly and off-pitch, teeth to brush, stairs to climb, rocks to hold, horses to ride, friends to steal your toys, parents to kiss and bite and hit and hug, dogs and outlets to scold, bugs to find, dirt to get under your fingernails, pictures to color, sticks to hit together, dramatic fake cell phone calls to make, monologues in some Slavic type language to shout passionately, and food to eat all by yourself without help from anyone because you're a great big one year old now!;)

This last week Huck accidentally killed a caterpillar while trying to admire it, and he also touched a worm. He is now crazy about all bugs, which makes his mother nervous. He will look at the gross insects page of his special animals book for a long time and make exciting noises over things like cockroaches and flies. Mommy doesn't know how to support this new hobby, so she uses her acting skills to seem interested and not grossed out, but deep inside she is screaming for her life and praying that he never brings home a frog. Also disturbing is Huck's newfound love for hitting his head on the wall or the floor and then proudly showing us the sign for "Pain.";)
Sometimes when you spend all day with a boy who loves bugs and hitting his head, you need to take a nap in the hammock alongside the Hudson River.

Happy 14 month birthday, Huck! Here’s his new look. A mix of concern, confusion and frustration all in one!;)
Here’s what Huck says all day long: Apple, Hot, MaMaMa, DaDaDa, Ball, All Done, Bye Bye, Bop and NoNoNoNo! He's obsessed with apples and can find them in paintings, posters, books and even on the produce drawer of refridgerators. His favorite food is the graham cracker and his favorite toy is Max’s dog leash. He enjoys playing with our cell phones and recently placed five calls in a row to Santa Domingo. He loves to throw balls and anything else that fits in his hand, including large rocks. His favorite hobby is hitting, which we are working on. It helps to hear that every other 14 month old in the world is also hitting. Now and then Huck bites my shoulder and looks confused when I react as if this is inappropriate. Apparently it should be okay for people to bite each other sometimes.
For all of you teeth fans, #9, 10 and 11 have finally arrived! Teething isn’t nearly as noticeable as it used to be, and that’s good news. Huck does not sit or stand still anymore, and that's not such good news. He is constantly moving, which means that we are constantly moving. It’s really nice when he sleeps because then we can stop moving.
Huck has the best personality and the best laugh of anyone we've ever known. And that smile! We really like that smile a lot.

We just returned from a week's vacation in Orlando where we introduced Huck to Florida sunshine, the ocean and lounge chairs!;)
More than anything, Huck loved these fountains at one of the many pools. He definitely looked like a drunk caveman as he marched around shouting baby babble and hitting the water aggressively. Here he is in his speedo from Aunt Lori, applauding the water show.

We went to the ocean and Huck had fun watching the waves, with Daddy close by at all times and Mommy taking pictures at all times.

We stayed in a beautiful and very comfortable villa at this amazing resort with our friends Tiffany, Brian, baby Kadin, Bonnie, Tim and baby Wynter. I just wish Troy would do something when he poses for pictures so that we could see him better.

Here's Huck with his best friends Wynter and Kadin. Huck is the leader because he's the big grown up one-year-old eating a graham cracker and kicking his little leg in the air.

Troy and I never take vacations like this. We are ready to go back next week for another one.
