Finally Huck is showing signs of being our child.  Last Wednesday at Town Meeting he got up in front of the entire school and confidently lead the two kindergarten classes in singing a delightful love song to Martin Luther King, Jr.  He sang each line into the microphone as the rest of the children echoed  him, and it was just about the sweetest thing I’ve ever witnessed without my camera.  That’s right, I didn’t have my camera because he forgot to tell me about it.  (We’ve had many talks since then about the importance of telling Mommy EVERYTHING from now on.)  Then yesterday during children’s choir practice he stood up from his little chair and joined the three really good singers on the tricky part of the song.  No one asked him to do this; he just decided he wanted to sing the hard part.  When it came time to put the whole song together he joined the three older kids in belting out their part very loudly and beautifully, again with some performer confidence I didn’t know he had.

Oh sure, he wants to be a scientist when he grows up.  But I’m here to make sure he’s a theatrical one.

I think Huck should have his own science show on cable TV — how ’bout a kids science show?? Seriously, folks!!!! Seriously!! (LOVED the story about his choice to spontaneously stand up and sing! Love that kid!!!)

Mama needs to carry her camera at ALL times.

Huck, you so need to have your own show.

Oh, Huck. Don’t you know there’s no future in science? Theater is where the big money is!
