Never mind the tall buildings, the subway trains, the noise and all the people.  The hardest thing for me to accept about living in New York City is that summer doesn’t start till June 28th.  So even though we’ve just completed a very fun end-of-the-school-year-feeling Memorial Day weekend that included several cookouts, picnics, lots of jump roping, a haircut, scooter riding, river swimming and fun with friends, Huck is back in the classroom thankful for his school’s air conditioning.  (I know I am.)

Here are pictures from what would be the first week of summer back when I was a kid.  Twenty-nine more days till the real thing!

What is with the squirt bottle? Does he clean the swingset?

Sure looks like summer break to me! When my kids go back mid-August it sure feels like summer break too. Oh there’s no winning…how about a 4 month summer break?

That squirt bottle, Dan, is a Bronx Zoo squirt bottle fan that is very helpful in hot humid weather.
