We just returned from a whirlwind visit to Los Angeles where our film AN ORDINARY FAMILY premiered to packed audiences on a very gigantic movie screen at the LA Film Festival. Huck got some of the biggest laughs of all, and he actually sat through the Tuesday afternoon screening. It was wonderful to be a part of all the festivities and celebrate our film, but most of all we got to spend some quality time with people we love. Highlights include the two screenings we attended (and all the special friends who showed up!), the poolside after-party, a backyard pizza party with old friends, a very fun visit to Disneyland, a day on the Santa Monica beach, and a final night together at a hotel.
After getting in at midnight LA time (that’s 3AM for us New Yorkers), we woke up on Father’s Day morning to the news that Troy’s Grandpa Schremmer had passed away. Many phone calls were made and Troy was able to change Wednesday’s flight so that he could be at the wake and funeral in Kansas. Grandpa Schremmer was 97 years old and one of the sweetest people we ever knew. When he first met Huck he kept saying, “What a dandy …” over and over again, and this has always made us smile.
So yesterday Huck and I said goodbye to our friends and boarded an airplane together that would take us to St. Louis, Chicago and finally home to New York around 11PM where we could get some sleep at last (which is something we didn’t do much of in LA). On the last leg of the trip Huck said to me, “I won’t see Shannon for an hour.” I asked what he meant and he explained, “You know, when I go to sleep.” Apparently he and Shannon meet up sometimes in “Dreamerland,” which is similar to Disneyland but is a place only open at night where all your dreams come true.
Sounds good to me. See you all tonight.
This last one pretty much sums it up.

What wonderful pictures. Looks like such a great celebration of your movie. I’m glad Troy could be there and then fly to be with his family in Kansas. Hugs to the Schremmers! xoxo
