Every Monday Huck and his classmates would start the morning sharing with each other a highlight of their weekend, followed by writing and drawing in their journals.  All year long I’ve been excited to see this notebook, happily imagining the misspelled words and insane pictures.  Yesterday Huck finally brought it home and I was not disappointed.   I would now like to share (and translate) a few particularly delightful entries.

This was his very first one and refers to the Little Red Lighthouse Festival.  “This is me stamping my envelope that is filled with lemon basil seeds.”

“This is me riding my bicycle almost four miles.”

This is a two-parter and is about his amazing lights magic trick.  “This is me holding my lights.  I love my lights.  My mom got the lights.  On Saturday I got it at Toys R Us.  It is really is two thumbs that you squeeze them they would light up red.”

This is about his favorite optical illusion.  “I went to the New York Hall of Science.  I saw a spring.  I reached to grab it but then it was not there.”

“This is me and my mom going to Barnstantinoble (fancy word for Barnes and Noble) and after that I am going to my friend’s house.”

This if following our trip to Kansas for Christmas. “This is me going to New York and home tweet home.  I am in a cab.”

“I was sledding down the hill on my sled.  I went with my mom and dad.”

“I had a lot of snowball fights.”

“I was on the train and I saw the Statue of Liberty and I was going to the New York Hall of Science.”

“My scooter arrived.  I rode my scooter all over the place and I felt great and I went to Bennett Park with my mom.”

“I am planting flowers at church.  I went with my mom and dad.  I walked there.  I went on Saturday.  I felt great.”

And my all time favorite …

“I saw Yogi Bear.  I had just sang in church.  My dad was clogging up mouse holes and my mom was reading.”

Oh this is more wonderful than Russ Sartain’s costume calendar, circa 1995!!! I will never call Barnes & Noble anything but Barnstantinople again. LOVE Huck’s hair on the scooter! Oh so much to love about these. Bravo, Huck!!

LOVE them!! BTW: We do not need you to translate for us. I can understand everything he wrote (really).

What an exciting life Huck leads. I want to be him when I grow up.

Oh delightful! This was one of my favorite things about Kindergarten ending. I love the journals with pictures! It’s adorable to see what they write about/what is important. My favorite image is Troy clogging up mouse holes while JJ reads. Great job Huck!

p.s. We talked about you and your magic thumbs with lights last weekend! Grandpa and I love that trick. Grandpa wants some of his own.

You just gave me a great idea for Dad’s 70th birthday … 70 magic thumbs! Or maybe one set. Good for 70 hours of fun!
