This morning while I was putting away laundry, making to-do lists in my head and getting ready to get some groceries, I vaguely heard Huck chattering away about an experiment he wanted to do that involved cupcake holders, paper squares and water. I handed him a half empty container of baking cups and said he could have them, causing him to lose his mind with gratitude and excitement. He continued talking to himself while doing some experiments at the kitchen sink, disappeared into his bedroom for a while, and then returned to where I was folding clothes. I have a hazy memory of him saying, “Do you think the word kiln is hard to say?” and I believe I nodded enthusiastically, though I actually have no opinion on the matter. Then Huck said, “Listen to how I say it. I’m really good at saying words that are hard for other people. Kiln. KILN.” I began giggling on the inside, wondering why on earth this was anything Huck would be thinking about, much less practicing, as I halfheartedly said, “Yes, you do say that word just right. I wonder why you’re so good at saying that word?” He proudly shrugged his shoulders and said, “I don’t know. Ask God.”
And because that was the last thing I expected him to say, I snapped out of my multi-tasking daze and laughed for a while as we performed a routine wherein we asked God ridiculous questions, giving him a break from all the drama of the world. It was a nice break for me, too.

Wow !! Huck has a buzz haircut ! I like it .
Great post. Those little minds get me. They always say what we need to get us back to the important!
So… what was he doing with the cupcake holders?!?!
Origami, what else?
