Today’s the first day of first grade, so what better picture than Huck’s last summer journal entry!  We kept the Monday tradition alive (though it was always met with resistance and growling) of writing and drawing a picture of something special from the previous week.  He worked very hard these last two months to choose things that could be described very quickly and drawn very easily, much to his mother’s disapproval.  Of all the summer Mondays, only this week’s was done with enthusiasm, so excited was Huck to illustrate his diving board experience in Virginia.  It’s going to break my heart when he starts drawing humans that actually look like humans.

And here’s the new first grader himself, back in his same classroom with his same teacher and classmates for another year.  I picture his teacher Marilyn saying, “Now where were we?”
