The other day Huck asked me, “Did you ever accidentally make your friends think you liked something because you didn’t want to be disrespectful?” I immediately knew what he was referring to, as a lot of his friends love Star Wars. When we’re outside these little guys magically turn sticks into light sabers and run around doing exciting, violent things to each other and invisible forces around them. Huck is often on the sidelines during these games, sometimes sitting with me on a bench eating snacks until he senses a non-Star Wars activity beginning. A couple weeks ago we were at an Inwood playground and when I brought Huck his water bottle I noticed he was standing next to his friends in a kind of awkward, stiff pose. I must have tilted my head with a confused look on my face because Jacob enthusiastically explained, “He’s my assistant C3PO! I’m Han Solo!” before taking off running across the playground with Huck, the British golden robot, slowly following.
For me it was playing Kate from Charlie’s Angels; for Huck it’s C3PO. The things we do for friendship …

Delightful.
He gets it from me… “No! Shut them all down!!!” We just understand slow, British golden robots.
What a fantastic C3PO! I have this sister who used to make me play school, so I dazed off in the distance and pretended I was playing with dolls. xoxo
