What a weekend!  We moved on Friday, thanks to the never tiring Ariel, expert mover Brian and comedy relief Mark, with special guest appearances by the delightful Shannon and entertaining Chad.  (It’s very important to find strong and hilarious people to help you move.)  We got everything out of our old place and into the new, with the exception of a few mysteriously absent items like a bag of emergency supplies for Huck’s Halloween costume and all my candles.

After putting one box into the moving truck, Huck got to spend his Friday at school followed by all kinds of neighborhood Halloween celebrations with his best friends, allowing us hours and hours to rearrange furniture and unpack boxes and search for my candles.  By the end of the day we were all reunited in our sweet new home, feeling more exhausted and relieved than we have in a long time.

Then it started to snow.

The next day we woke up feeling very achy, a little sick and extremely confused what season it was.  There’s nothing quite like the disoriented feeling of being in a new home while it snows in October.  But it was quite cozy and wonderful, too.  After hours of Saturday morning cartoons, something  reserved for special occasions like giving your parents time to unpack, Huck begged us to go play in the snow, which happens to be his all-time favorite thing to do in the whole world.  Searching for snow boots, winter coats, gloves and hats is also not an easy thing to do when you’ve just moved in October, but now we know where all that stuff is and are all set for January.  By evening time we were dressed in Halloween gear at Muscota’s Mad Hatter’s Ball, all of us sharing stories on how hard it was to get 20 blocks.

We will forever remember this move as happening in winter time.  Thankfully, fall returned in a couple days.  More on that later.
